Anthony Hamilton, father of seven-time Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton, has sold 27 classic cars from his private collection for nearly £2.9 million (approximately $3.8 million USD), according to reports.
The sale, which took place at the Iconic Auctioneers British Racing Drivers' Club Classic Sale at Silverstone on Sunday, attracted international collectors.
The collection primarily featured British-made vehicles, with a low-mileage 1993 Jaguar XJ220 emerging as the top earner. This particular model achieved a UK auction record sale price of £506,250, having covered just 3,277 miles from new. It was one of only 69 right-hand-drive examples supplied to the UK.
Five other vehicles from Hamilton's garage sold for six-figure sums. A 2007 Jaguar XKSS recreation, a hand-built replica of the 1957 D-Type, sold for £400,000, exceeding its upper estimate by £25,000.
An ultra-rare 2016 David Brown Automotive Speedback GT, with only 354 miles driven, fetched £202,500. Additionally, two 2016 Jaguar C-Type recreations achieved £192,000 and £190,000 respectively.
A 1961 Mercedes-Benz 190SL, described as pristine, sold for over £100,000. Another Mercedes-Benz 190SL from 1961, finished in white over navy blue, also reached £104,625.
Also included in the sale was a 1967 Jaguar E-Type Series I 4.2-Litre Roadster, which had been restored and converted to right-hand drive, selling for £119,250. A 1997 David Brown Mini Remastered, number 29 in its production run, set a new world record for the model, selling for £92,250.
Rob Hubbard, managing director at Iconic Auctioneers, stated that his team worked closely with Anthony Hamilton to achieve strong prices, attributing the success to the quality of the vehicles and buyer confidence.
