Lenny Rush Reflects on 'Slow Horses' Season 6 Finale and Potential Return
The young actor discusses his character Reece's heroic moment and his fond memories of filming the Apple TV+ spy thriller.
Lenny Rush, who portrays Reece in Apple TV+'s spy thriller "Slow Horses," shared his thoughts on the show's action-packed Season 6 finale, "Judgment Day," and expressed a strong desire to return for future seasons. The finale featured a pivotal moment where Reece unexpectedly saves Roddy (Christopher Chung), a scene that Rush revealed was almost cut from the original script.
"It was in the original script that Reece kills Frank’s henchman, but then it was removed, and I was like, ‘Damn it!'" Rush told DECIDER in an interview. "Then on the day, Adam [Randall], the director, said, ‘I don’t know why we removed that.’ And I was like, ‘No, I don’t either! It’s a good idea!’" Rush described the scene as a "really cool moment" that elicited a subtle, genuine smile from Roddy, indicating gratitude.
Rush also reflected on filming the intense safe house action sequence. He noted that the production utilized practical effects, with a window actually being smashed during filming. "There’s this really weird, genuine adrenaline you get when there is smoke filling the room, you’re hiding behind a sofa, and you can just hear the gunshots. It’s like, ‘Oh my god, this feels so real,'" he said. Despite the intensity, Rush maintained a positive experience, stating he had a smile on his face throughout.
Filming the series in chronological order allowed Rush to experience interactions with his co-stars organically, mirroring the characters' on-screen development. He highlighted a particularly poignant heart-to-heart scene with Standish (Saskia Reeves) and recalled enjoying an eating scene in a picturesque safe house. "And everyone knows the greatest honor in Slow Horses is to get an eating scene," he quipped.
Looking ahead, Rush expressed a deep affection for his time on "Slow Horses," calling it "genuinely the loveliest job with the loveliest group of people and so much fun." He admitted to experiencing FOMO (fear of missing out) regarding the filming of Seasons 7 and 8 and stated, "I would absolutely love to go back, even if it’s for 10 minutes." He believes his character, Reece, despite the dangerous journey, has built genuine relationships with the other Slough House agents, a significant development for him. "I like to think that he’s doing all right," Rush added.
One of Rush's favorite lines from the season was his retort to Roddy Ho in the final episode: "They’re not Vikings!" He advised future guest stars to fully appreciate their time on set, emphasizing the show's unique atmosphere. "I learned so much being on that job, to be honest. I think the one thing I just couldn’t fathom was that this is a job. It’s unreal," he stated.
