LeBron James Open About Challenges of Long-Distance Family Life While Playing for 76ers

LeBron James has addressed the complexities of his current living situation, balancing his role with the Philadelphia 76ers while his wife, Savannah, and youngest daughter, Zhuri, remain in Los Angeles. The decision for his family to stay on the West Coast was made to minimize disruption to 11-year-old Zhuri's schooling.

"It’s going to be challenging, for sure, because she’s always been my backbone," James said, reflecting on the distance from his wife. He emphasized his commitment to supporting his family's growth and well-being, stating, "But, listen, whatever my daughter, whatever my wife need in order for them to continue to grow. I’m landing my plane soon. It’s all good."

Savannah James has maintained her presence in Los Angeles not only for their daughter but also due to her own entrepreneurial ventures rooted on the West Coast. She is an investor in a new professional volleyball team based in Los Angeles.

The family's arrangement means James will not see his wife and daughter regularly, though he anticipates reuniting with them on Christmas Day when the 76ers are scheduled to play the Los Angeles Lakers. This cross-country separation highlights the personal sacrifices involved in James's recent career move, which has garnered significant public attention.

Philadelphia 76ers forward LeBron James looks on during the first half of an NBA basketball game against the New York Knicks Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2026, in New York. Savannah James attends the Blue Jacket Fashion Show, an event supporting prostate cancer awareness and men's health through fashion and philanthropy, in Los Angeles, California, Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026.
