LeBron James, embarking on his 24th NBA season, has joined the Philadelphia 76ers with a chance to add to his already extensive list of league records. James, who signed a two-year, $8 million contract in July, is looking to secure a championship alongside Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid, while simultaneously chasing historical statistical milestones.
At 41 years old, James is already the NBA's all-time leading scorer and holds over 40 major official records. His move to Philadelphia marks a significant salary sacrifice, reportedly turning down a $20 million offer to remain in Los Angeles, with the stated goal of competing for another championship.
"I didn't leave my family to lose in the second round," James said at Sixers Media Day.
James is set to extend his own record for the most seasons played, beginning his 24th season in the league. This record, once held by Vince Carter at 22 seasons, has become increasingly difficult to approach in the modern era. He is also poised to further extend his records for regular-season points and minutes, surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's previous benchmarks. If James maintains his career average of at least 20 points per game, a streak he has held since his rookie season in 2003, he will achieve 24 consecutive seasons with such an average.
Beyond longevity records, James continues to lead in numerous scoring achievements. He holds the record for the most 30-point games in NBA history, having surpassed Michael Jordan.
