LeBron James Debuts with 76ers in Preseason Loss
Star player scores 10 points in his first game since signing with Philadelphia.
LeBron James made his first on-court appearance for the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday, scoring 10 points in a preseason 114-108 loss to the Brooklyn Nets. The 41-year-old played 30 minutes, shooting 1-for-1 from the field and 8-for-8 from the free-throw line.
James primarily adopted a playmaking role throughout the game, contributing four rebounds, five assists, and one steal. This marked his debut in a 76ers uniform since signing a two-year, veteran-minimum contract worth $7.95 million in July.
Earlier in September, James expressed confidence in his ability to lead the team to a championship, stating his intention to bring his championship experience and knowledge to Philadelphia. "I hope that I can, you know, bring that experience, bring that knowledge, bring the blueprint to the guys that’s trying to accomplish some things that they haven’t done in their career," James said. "I’ve seen everything that this league has to offer on the floor and off the floor, so I hope that every single day with my approach to the game, approach to the work, that it can translate to every single guy."
Recent reports suggested some early friction within the team, with James reportedly confronting Joel Embiid for being late to a practice. The incident was shared by broadcaster Mike Breen during a game between the 76ers and the Knicks. However, James refuted the report via his Instagram story, stating, "He ain’t been late so stop the lies." Breen later apologized for the story, telling ESPN that it was taken out of context and intended to highlight James's impact on team professionalism and accountability.
