LeBron James Appears to Double Down on Golf Swing Antics During National Anthem After Trump Criticism
NBA star's actions during the anthem draw renewed criticism from former President Trump.
LeBron James seemingly responded to criticism from former President Donald Trump by continuing to perform hip turns, described as resembling golf swing preparations, during the national anthem before a recent game. The incident occurred prior to the Philadelphia 76ers facing the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Trump had previously attacked James on social media platform Truth Social, calling his actions a "total disgrace" and stating that James "disrespects our Country." Trump further urged James to apologize to American service members and heroes.
During a campaign stop in Iowa, Trump expressed his confusion and disapproval of James's behavior, questioning, "What about LeBron James? Did you see that deal? He's practicing his golf swing. I said, what the hell is that? I don't understand it."
James, when asked about Trump's remarks after the game, dismissed them by saying, "Slow news day at the office."
The Associated Press previously reported on Trump's initial strong reaction to James's actions, which occurred during James's debut with the 76ers. The Philadelphia Inquirer described the movements as "stretching," a characterization that was noted by some observers as a softer interpretation compared to the common understanding within the golf community.
