LeBron James has acknowledged the personal difficulties of living apart from his wife and daughter as he begins his 24th NBA season with the Philadelphia 76ers. James's transition to the Eastern Conference team commenced with a season-opening victory over the New York Knicks.

Away from the court, James has spoken about the challenges of this long-distance arrangement. His wife, Savannah, and their daughter, Zuri, have opted to remain in California, leaving James to manage his new East Coast commitments on his own. James admitted in an interview with The New York Times that this adjustment will be demanding, noting Savannah's role as his "backbone."

"But, listen, whatever my daughter, whatever my wife need in order for them to continue to grow," James stated, indicating his support for their decisions.

Adding to the family's dispersed living situation, his elder children, Bronny and Bryce, are also pursuing their own paths, with Bronny playing in Los Angeles and Bryce in Arizona.

Despite joining the Philadelphia 76ers for what may be his final NBA contract, James is not residing in the city. Instead, he is based in New York, approximately 100 miles away. His travel arrangements to practice sessions prior to the NBA season have drawn attention, as he is commuting via helicopter.

It has been revealed that Fanatics, a sponsor, is providing James with access to their Leonardo AW139 helicopter as part of a long-term partnership. This arrangement allows him to travel between Philadelphia and New York, a journey that takes about 40-45 minutes by air. The alternative car commute between the two locations would take around two hours, and charter flights of similar duration can cost between $6,000 and $9,000 each way.

Discussing his move to the 76ers and his aspirations for the postseason, James expressed a clear focus: "I didn't leave my family to lose in the second round."

At 41 years old and approaching the later stages of his career, James reflected on retirement at media day. "I'm just looking at it every single day on how I can be the best version of myself for this franchise while I'm here," he said. "I can't speak into the future right now. I think that would be doing a disservice to myself. Just living in the moment, especially knowing that I am where I am in my career."

He added, "Me trying to focus on what the future looks like would be like, I wouldn't be giving myself grace. I'm more in the present now, understanding that I'm in Year 24. It won't be another Year-plus 24, you know what I'm saying? It's just like being in the moment and just seeing what happens."
