Leaked WhatsApp Messages Spark Controversy for Sydney Swans Star Isaac Heeney
Viral texts from Isaac Heeney regarding a hotel scandal have surfaced, with questions arising about the leaker's identity and Heeney's context.
Leaked WhatsApp messages attributed to Sydney Swans player Isaac Heeney have surfaced online, adding another layer to an ongoing hotel scandal that has already led to several players being stood down. The messages, which have gone viral, have prompted scrutiny regarding their origin and Heeney's specific context.
The Sydney Swans have not disputed the authenticity of the messages. A club spokesman indicated that Heeney's statement, "this is completely f[redacted]ed up," may have been a response to multiple points within a supportive text from a friend, rather than solely to the allegations within the hotel scandal.
The individual identified as the leaker, Nicola Kegel, is reported to be a former neighbor of Heeney's. Kegel, who sent Heeney a supportive text message, subsequently published Heeney's reply on the social media platform X. The Mail has independently confirmed that Kegel previously resided in the same unit complex as Heeney in Maroubra.
Heeney, along with teammates Chad Warner, Riley Bice, Nick Blakey, and James Jordon, were stood down last month. The club stated that these players breached standards by staying out late, consuming alcohol, and bringing guests back to their hotel in the early hours of August 17. Despite being temporarily removed from duties, the players are scheduled to return to the club's Moore Park headquarters for end-of-season exit meetings.
This situation comes at a sensitive time for the Sydney Swans, as the controversy unfolds days before the AFL Grand Final.
