Leaked Crime Scene Photos Intensify Scrutiny in Boston Police Sex Scandal

A trove of leaked crime scene photos has intensified scrutiny surrounding a Boston police sex scandal, depicting the death of Sandra Birchmore, a pregnant woman found partially hanged in her apartment. The images are central to allegations that her death, and that of her unborn child, were staged to look like a suicide.

Birchmore, 23, was discovered on February 4, 2021, in her Canton, Massachusetts, apartment. Court documents and leaked photographs suggest a complex and tragic narrative involving a married lover, identified as former Stoughton police officer Matthew Farwell. Farwell is on trial, accused of killing Birchmore and her unborn baby, then orchestrating the scene to appear as a suicide.

Signs of Birchmore's excitement about impending motherhood were reportedly abundant in her apartment. Photos show a handmade poster celebrating the pregnancy, a black and white ultrasound picture displayed on the refrigerator, and a brand-new baby stroller still in its box in the hallway. A whiteboard calendar on the bedroom wall had a pink heart marking February 14, Valentine's Day, presumably the date Birchmore planned to announce her pregnancy to the world. These details underscore the potential tragedy for those close to her.

Despite the purported evidence of her joy, the leaked crime scene photos, which have been presented to jurors, depict a distressing final scene. The collection includes images of Birchmore's body and the circumstances of her death, including what appears to be a bag strap. The defense, however, has presented a suicide note allegedly written by Birchmore in 2017, claiming she died by suicide after Farwell ended their relationship.

Birchmore had a long-standing connection to law enforcement, having joined the Stoughton Police Explorers program at the age of 12. The ongoing trial is expected to shed further light on the relationship between Birchmore and Farwell and the events leading up to her death, with the leaked crime scene photos serving as a grim focal point for the proceedings.
