Calls to end the U.S. military engagement in Iran intensified following the deaths of three American service members in Jordan earlier this week. The incident, which occurred at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, is currently under investigation, according to official statements.

1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, was killed in action on July 18, 2026. The following day, July 17, 2026, Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas, also died in action during an enemy attack. The exact circumstances of their deaths remain under review.

These recent fatalities bring the total number of U.S. military personnel killed since the initial strikes against Iran on February 28 to an estimated 17. A period of reduced hostilities had followed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on June 17, which established a 60-day cease-fire to facilitate further negotiations.

Lawmakers advocating for a withdrawal from the conflict expressed frustration and grief over the continued loss of American lives. One Democratic lawmaker stated, "No more American heroes need to die because of this reckless war of choice."
