LaVar Ball is facing a lawsuit from MD Steel Inc. over an alleged outstanding debt of $221,928 for the installation of a custom basketball court at his Chino Hills residence. The contractor filed the complaint in January, stating that the total cost for the court's renovation exceeded $970,000, with Ball having paid $754,391 towards the project.

Court records indicate that the dispute centers on the remaining balance for the court's construction at Ball's mansion. During a March tour of his home with the Kiya Studios YouTube channel, Ball showcased the basketball court while it appeared to still be under construction, with workers actively on site.

The lawsuit comes shortly after other personal and familial developments for Ball. His son, LaMelo Ball, was traded from the Hornets to the Timberwolves just one day prior to this news. Additionally, LaVar Ball revealed during a livestream that his 30-year marriage to his wife, Tina, is ending.

The Chino Hills mansion itself has a history, having been purchased for LaVar Ball by his son Lonzo Ball after Lonzo was selected by the Lakers in the 2017 NBA Draft. The property was valued at $5.2 million at the time of the lawsuit's reporting.
