Lauren Glassberg, a familiar face on WABC-TV’s “Eyewitness News” for 26 years, has left the Disney-owned station. Her departure was first noted by industry newsletter FTVLive.

Colleagues expressed sadness and admiration for Glassberg's contributions during a farewell gathering last week. Veteran reporter Stacey Sager described Glassberg as a "vital member of the core @abc7ny family" and a "supportive friend," wishing her well on "a new and exciting chapter."

Anchor Ryan Field lauded Glassberg as a "consummate professional" whose reporting was characterized by "wit and personal touch." He added that she was "one of the best reporters in town."

Executive producer Bob Monek highlighted Glassberg's versatility, noting her ability to cover "fascinating feature[s] to breaking news to hosting parades and anchoring the news." He stated she will be "sorely missed at Eyewitness News not just for her storytelling but, as was evident last night, the lives she touched."

Glassberg joined WABC in 2000, having previously worked at stations in Akron, Ohio; Little Rock, Ark.; and Minneapolis. A graduate of Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, she became a signature reporter for the station.

Her role often included filling in at the anchor desk and covering a wide range of stories. She gained particular recognition for her weekly restaurant feature, "Neighborhood Eats," which highlighted culinary establishments across the New York City metropolitan area and became a well-known franchise for WABC.

During her tenure, Glassberg covered significant city events, including reporting from St. Vincent’s Hospital during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. She also documented the challenges faced by local restaurants and small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic. Neither Glassberg nor WABC has publicly announced her future plans. The New York Post has sought comment from both Glassberg and WABC-TV regarding her departure and next steps. WABC-TV colleagues had a warm send-off for Glassberg last week.
