Laura Hamilton Addresses Online Trolls Commenting on Her Appearance
The TV presenter advocates for kindness and personal choice regarding one's body and aging.
Laura Hamilton has publicly addressed online trolls who have made unsolicited comments about her changing appearance, urging them to focus on their own lives. Hamilton, 44, shared a series of gym photos on Thursday, highlighting her fitness regimen and advocating for a more positive approach to body image and aging.
In a statement posted on social media, Hamilton responded to comments such as "She's put on weight," "She's too thin," or "She's looking old." She acknowledged that while she has a supportive online community, such remarks are still made.
"I’m not trying to have the body I had at 25," Hamilton stated. "I’m trying to look after the body I have NOW, so it looks after me for years to come. And let’s not forget, ageing is a privilege."
She emphasized that individual choices about one's body, whether through exercise, cosmetic procedures, or embracing natural changes, should be respected. "We don’t all have to look the same, make the same choices or even agree with each other. But we can still be kind," she wrote.
Hamilton questioned when it became acceptable to judge others' appearances so readily. She noted that while posting photos on social media might invite comments, it should not be an invitation to critique someone's body. "I go to the gym because I want to feel strong, healthy and happy," she explained.
Reflecting on her own life, Hamilton pointed out that her body has naturally changed over the years, including through childbirth and aging. She also addressed the topic of cosmetic procedures, stating, "so what if someone chooses to have a few tweakments? If you want to embrace every wrinkle, wonderful! If you fancy a little help along the way, that’s fine too!"
She concluded by asking her followers if they believed social media has made people too comfortable commenting on others' appearances. Hamilton previously shared that her fitness routine includes daily movement, strength training, yoga, and reformer Pilates. She has also spoken about her efforts to maintain a budget-friendly diet, aiming for around £75 per week for groceries for her family, with staples like lean proteins, berries, and watermelon.
