Latino Voters Show Declining Support for Trump, Favor Democrats Ahead of Midterms: Poll

Latino voters are moving away from former President Donald Trump and the Republican party ahead of the upcoming midterm elections, according to a poll conducted by NBC News and Telemundo. The survey, which polled 800 registered Latino voters nationwide between September 21-28, revealed that 69% disapprove of Trump's job performance, while only 27% approve.

Furthermore, the poll found that approximately 66% of Latino voters believe Trump's deportation policies have been too harsh, and 75% indicated that Trump has mishandled the economy and the cost of living.

Democrats hold a substantial advantage among Latino voters regarding congressional control. Fifty-nine percent of Latino voters expressed a desire for Democrats to control Congress, compared to 35% who favored Republican control. This indicates a shift from the 2024 elections, where Democrats had a narrower 12-point lead among this demographic, suggesting the GOP has lost some ground gained previously.

Despite this swing, the Republican party has seen significant improvement in Latino support over the past decade. In 2016 and 2018, Latino support for a Republican-controlled Congress stood at 21% and 26%, respectively.

The NBC News and Telemundo poll was conducted using phone interviews and online surveys via text message, with a reported margin of error of 3.5%.

Trump, speaking at a rally in Dayton, Ohio, on Saturday night, suggested that such polling data may not fully capture his influence on the elections. He stated that "fake polls" do not account for his campaigning efforts and expressed confidence in prevailing with his supporters.

In projections for the House of Representatives, Democrats are anticipated to win 215 seats, while Republicans are projected to secure 201. This scenario would require Democrats to win three of the 19 toss-up races to achieve a majority, while Republicans would need to win at least 17.
