Las Vegas Tourist Awarded $5.7 Million After Taxi Trunk Incident

A Las Vegas tourist has been awarded approximately $5.7 million after a taxi driver closed the vehicle's trunk on her head, resulting in a traumatic brain injury. Lindy Moore, from California, was visiting Las Vegas on April 14, 2024, when the incident occurred.

According to a complaint filed in Clark County District Court, Moore was retrieving luggage from the trunk of a YCS Checker LLC Operations Series cab when the driver, Stanislaw Solowiej, slammed the trunk shut on her head. Her attorneys stated that the injury required extensive treatment and significantly disrupted her life.

An eight-person jury in Clark County District Court unanimously awarded Moore the damages on October 18, 2026. Her legal team emphasized the real-world impact of her injuries during the five-day trial. Moore's lawsuit alleged that the cab company operated its vehicles negligently and was responsible for hiring and training Solowiej improperly. The suit also claimed that the driver was not adequately supervised and that the company failed to ensure he adhered to traffic laws and was fit to drive a taxi.

Moore claimed she suffered emotional distress and a diminished enjoyment of life due to the injuries. Her original claim sought $15,000 in general damages, plus special damages. Lawyers for the cab company reportedly challenged her medical expenses and disputed the extent of her injuries, but the jury sided with Moore.

Court documents did not specify the exact location in Las Vegas where Moore was injured, nor did they detail any consequences for the driver, Solowiej. YCS Checker LLC Operations Series was formed in Nevada in April 2021 and is part of Taxi Management LLC, which operates other taxi services in the Las Vegas area. The Daily Mail reported reaching out to both companies for comment.
