Las Vegas Showgirls Arrested After Alleged $20 Tip Dispute Leads to Violent Brawl
Two women were charged with battery following a confrontation that injured two tourists outside Planet Hollywood.
Two women dressed as Las Vegas showgirls have been arrested following a violent altercation with tourists on the Las Vegas Strip. The incident, which occurred on September 30, reportedly began when a $20 tip for photos escalated into a physical fight.
According to an arrest report, the dispute occurred outside Planet Hollywood. Officers responded to a call about a fight involving individuals in showgirl costumes. Two visitors from North Carolina had reportedly paid $20 for photographs with three women dressed as showgirls. As the tourists began to leave, one of the showgirls, identified as Jennifer Ortiz, allegedly demanded an additional $60 to $180.
Police stated that Ortiz then repeatedly struck one of the tourists. Investigators reviewed surveillance footage that indicated the victim was struck more than 22 times. Ortiz allegedly removed her high-heeled boot and used it to hit the tourist in the forehead, causing a cut nearly two inches long.
Separate video footage showed two showgirls fighting with a man and a woman. One performer is seen pulling the woman's hair and punching her. The man involved, who appeared to have blood on his face, intervened, shouting at the performers to stop the assault. He then pushed one of the showgirls.
Ortiz and Magdellena Romero were arrested. Ortiz faces charges of battery and obtaining money under false pretenses. Romero was charged with battery. Both were booked into the Clark County Detention Center.
The arrest report also detailed a separate complaint from a man who claimed he was charged $218 for photos after agreeing to pay $60. He stated he tapped his debit card on Ortiz's phone, only to discover the larger charge later. When he confronted the women, they allegedly provided a fake phone number to resolve the issue.
Ortiz told investigators that one of the tourists became aggressive and struck her first. Romero stated she intervened because her friend was being attacked. A third showgirl reportedly attempted to break up the confrontation.
Both injured tourists were treated at the scene but declined to be taken to the hospital. They provided written statements and requested that charges be filed.
Ortiz is reportedly under a court order to avoid further trouble after a similar confrontation at the Fremont Street Experience in March.
Romero and Ortiz are scheduled to appear in court again on December 3.
