The Las Vegas Raiders are seeking $75 million in taxpayer funds to help finance $158 million in proposed improvements to Allegiant Stadium, a facility that opened in 2020. The stadium, which cost approximately $2 billion to construct, is located near the Las Vegas Strip.
Reports indicate the Raiders aim to use money from the Las Vegas Stadium Authority's fund, which is derived from taxpayer dollars. The remaining portion of the renovation costs would be privately funded by the team. These proposed upgrades include the addition of a new pedestrian deck, a public plaza, an event deck, and enhancements to stadium transportation. The team also plans to build a new "front door" for the stadium.
Allegiant Stadium has become a prominent venue in the NFL since its opening. It hosted Super Bowl LVIII in February 2024 and is scheduled to host the championship game again in February 2029. The stadium has a seating capacity of 65,000.
The NFL team is reportedly looking at securing $75 million in funding from the Las Vegas Stadium Authority.
This request comes as other NFL teams have also faced stadium-related issues. The Buffalo Bills recently opened a new $2.2 billion stadium that has encountered problems, including obstructed views reported by fans and concerns about the quality of the field. One player described the field as "a a right now."
