Stand-up comedian Larry the Cable Guy, 63, was hospitalized on Thursday night with appendicitis in his hometown of Lincoln, Nebraska. Known offstage as Daniel Lawrence Whitney, he spent two days receiving treatment before being discharged on Saturday and is now recovering at home.
His representative confirmed the hospitalization to the Daily Mail, stating, "Larry was hospitalized with appendicitis. He was discharged today and is recovering well. He's in good spirits and feeling much better."

The health scare forced Whitney to postpone taping episodes of his new CBS syndicated series, "American Mayhem," which had been set to premiere in the fall. The show, which Whitney was announced to host in May, is a 52-episode weekly comedy clip show described as being similar to "America's Funniest Home Videos" but focusing on extreme and wild content.

Whitney, whose signature catchphrase is ‘Git-R-Done!’, recently completed a comedy tour with stops in Florida and Atlantic City, wrapping up in Erie, Pennsylvania, on May 17. He also hosts the SiriusXM radio show "Larry the Cable Guy and The Fun Bunch."

In recent interviews, Whitney has spoken about his commitment to continuing his stand-up career despite what he described as a divisive political and "woke" climate in the U.S. He told Us Weekly, "If you let it bother you, yeah it's going to be tough. But I think Shane Gillis pretty much proved to everybody that you can get canceled and if you wanna double down on that that's what people want you to do because they're sick of it to."

Whitney referenced Shane Gillis's experience, noting that the comedian became more popular after being fired from "Saturday Night Live" for past controversial remarks, before eventually returning to host the show. Gillis was fired in September 2019, just four days after being hired as a cast member, due to resurfaced clips of him using slurs on a podcast. He later hosted "Saturday Night Live" in February 2024.
