Lara Trump has offered an explanation for a moment that captured public attention during the funeral service for Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) last month at Washington National Cathedral. The incident, where she was observed looking at her Apple Watch, quickly went viral online.

In a social media video, Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law stated that she received several calls from staff at the New York summer camp her two children were attending during the two-hour service. She noted that for any parent, receiving calls from a children's camp can signal a problem, such as an injury or an emergency.

"So I did what any parent would do, and I tried to very discreetly inquire as to what was going on so that I could at least know that I had the ability to stay seated in the funeral," Lara Trump said. She described the situation as a "situation" at the camp, but confirmed that both children were unharmed, which she stated was "hence the need to contact me in the middle of this." She asserted that she had attempted to be "as discreet as possible."

Lara Trump also pushed back against what she characterized as a manipulated portrayal of the event by some critics. "But the only thing you’ll see is ‘Lara Trump checks her watch,’ like I’m checking the time. Get over yourselves," she stated. "And this just shows you, by the way, how manipulated so much of what you see out there truly is."

She added that the only mistake made was "that I happened to glance down and try to like figure out what’s going on with my kids."
