Lara Trump has defended a controversial AI-generated video shared by White House deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino, which showed her, her husband Eric Trump, Scavino, and his wife Erin spraying champagne while on a luggage cart. The video, reportedly created after a White House state dinner for Chinese President Xi Jinping, has drawn criticism for its optics, particularly in the lead-up to midterm elections.
Appearing on The Sun’s “Harry Cole Saves The West” podcast, Lara Trump was questioned by host Harry Cole about the video’s message. Cole pointed out that Republican voters might be hesitant to support candidates given rising costs of everyday items like gas, coffee, and ground beef. He asked if there was a "disconnect between the sort of reality of the world of Americans and this sort of golden age that seems to be going on behind the doors of Pennsylvania Avenue?"
Lara Trump dismissed the suggestion, characterizing the president as unconventional and stating that "the rules have never really applied" to him. She described the video as a "fun thing" and "tongue-in-cheek," adding that anyone overly upset by it might be "a little bit stiff."
Cole pressed further, suggesting the video contributed to a narrative that the rules do not apply to Donald Trump, referencing past projects like the demolition of the East Wing and construction of a ballroom. He questioned if Trump remained focused on the day-to-day realities of struggling Americans.
Lara Trump asserted that Donald Trump absolutely still possesses this focus, arguing that he is not "bogged down by all of the political nonsense and the political etiquette" and is "straight" with Americans. She also commented on the personal cost of Donald Trump's political career, stating, "We’ve paid a very high price in our family. As everyone knows, it has not been a cakewalk for any of us."
When Cole raised allegations that the Trump Organization and family have profited significantly in recent years, Lara Trump expressed no concern. "I’m not concerned and I — no one in our family has anything with which to be concerned," she said, maintaining that critics would target Trump regardless of his actions.
