Five passengers sustained burns when a laptop ignited on an American Airlines flight Friday, forcing the pilot to declare a cabin fire.

The flight, traveling from Atlanta, Georgia, to Dallas, Texas, with over 130 passengers, experienced the incident as it approached its destination. Air traffic control audio obtained by CBS News revealed the pilot reporting a "cabin fire in the back of the airplane" and that "about four to five passengers were burned by the laptop."

Flight attendants responded quickly to extinguish the flames. American Airlines confirmed the incident in a statement to CBS News, stating that flight 2398 "landed safely at DFW after reports of smoke from a customer’s device during landing." The airline commended its crew for their "professionalism and swift response to quickly contain the device."

Emergency personnel were on standby at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport to attend to the affected passengers. One passenger required medical attention, according to BBC reports.
