LAPD Homicide Detectives Search Joshua Tree Area in Missing SNL Writer's Sister Case

Los Angeles police homicide detectives conducted a search in the Joshua Tree area of California on Friday, seeking evidence in connection with the disappearance of Christina Lynn Downer, the sister of "Saturday Night Live" writer Jimmy Fowlie. Downer, 38, was last seen in the Koreatown area of Los Angeles in late November 2025.

Her brother announced in an April Instagram post that the LAPD had informed his family that Downer was deceased and that the case had been reclassified from a missing person investigation to a homicide investigation. "Our prayers for her to be found safely have transformed into prayers for the truth to be revealed and for those responsible to be held accountable," Fowlie wrote at the time.

However, the LAPD publicly stated that Downer had not been located and that her case remained an active missing-person investigation. "Although the circumstances of her disappearance are suspicious, Ms. Downer has not been located," the department said in a previous statement. "Detectives will continue investigating until the case is resolved."

Fowlie also raised concerns about his sister's cellphone and social media accounts, alleging that they were used to conceal her disappearance and create a false narrative that she had voluntarily gone off the grid. "The individual(s) in possession of her phone used it to hide the fact she was gone, to ask for money, and to create a false narrative that she was going 'off the grid,'" he stated. These allegations have not been officially confirmed by the LAPD.

During Friday's search, officials could not confirm whether investigators were looking for human remains, a suspect, or other evidence, nor whether search dogs were involved. It remains unclear what led investigators to the Joshua Tree area or if the official classification of Downer's case has changed since the department's earlier statement.
