HBO's new superhero drama, "Lanterns," is set to premiere on Sunday, August 16, on HBO and HBO Max. The series, a live-action reimagining of the Green Lantern comic books, will debut its first episode at 9 p.m. ET.

The first season of "Lanterns" will consist of eight episodes, with new installments airing weekly on Sundays through October 4, 2026. The season finale is scheduled for October 4.

The show centers on Hal Jordan, played by Kyle Chandler, who is the first human to be designated as a Green Lantern by an extraterrestrial organization known as the Guardians. Green Lanterns are described as intergalactic law enforcement officers who utilize a power ring to manifest any object they can conceive. Aaron Pierre stars as John Stewart, a former Marine training to become the next Green Lantern.

The narrative finds Hal tasked with training John, a role he is reluctant to embrace, leading to friction between the two as they investigate an alien-related murder mystery in the small town of Rushville, Nebraska.

Key cast members include Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan, Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, Kelly Macdonald as Sheriff Kerry Kane, Garret Dillahunt as William Macon, Poorna Jagannathan as Zoe, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Jason Ritter as Billy Macon, and Ulrich Thomsen as Thal Sinestro.

"Lanterns" is an HBO original series, accessible through HBO or HBO Max subscriptions. Subscription costs for HBO Max start at $10.99 per month for an ad-supported plan, with an ad-free subscription priced at $18.49 per month. Bundled packages with Disney+ and Hulu are also available.

Information regarding a potential second season has not yet been released. An official trailer for the series is available.
