Lane Kiffin, head coach of the LSU Tigers, has suggested that Ole Miss violated SEC rules by playing stadium music during snaps when LSU's offense was on the field. The accusation came after LSU's 32-24 loss to Ole Miss, a game marking Kiffin's return to Oxford.
During a recent SEC coaches' teleconference, Kiffin stated that crowd noise and music played "all the way through the snap when the center's hand is on the ball. Again and again." He alluded to this as one of the factors contributing to his team's performance, specifically mentioning struggles in pass protection around quarterback Sam Leavitt.
SEC regulations stipulate that stadium music must cease once the center touches the ball. Kiffin's comments, made several days after the game, have drawn scrutiny, with some interpreting them as an attempt to excuse the loss.
The game itself saw Ole Miss establish an early 17-0 lead, ultimately holding on for the victory despite LSU's second-half comeback attempt. Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss threw for 363 yards, while LSU's Sam Leavitt passed for 158 yards and added 63 rushing yards.
