Lane Kiffin Blames Ole Miss Loss on Stadium Music

LSU head coach Lane Kiffin has attributed his team's defeat against his former school, Ole Miss, to the stadium's in-stadium music being played repeatedly during game action. Ole Miss secured a 32-24 victory over LSU at Vaught Hemingway Stadium on Saturday.

Kiffin, who left Ole Miss for LSU under contentious circumstances, returned to Oxford facing a hostile reception. Speaking on Wednesday, he alleged that the Rebels' stadium operations staff violated SEC regulations by playing music during snaps.

When questioned about LSU quarterback Sam Leavitt's performance, which yielded only 158 passing yards, Kiffin pointed to the crowd noise and the continuous music. "Those games happen and a lot of factors go into that," Kiffin stated. "We didn't protect really well around him; the crowd noise and music being played all the way through the snap when the center's hand is on the ball. Again and again."

SEC rules prohibit the use of controlled music or sound systems from the moment the offensive center places a hand on the football. Kiffin's comments, made three days after the game, drew ridicule online, with one user on X calling the excuse "Hilarious and Pathetic."

Following the game, footage emerged showing Ole Miss players refusing to shake hands with Kiffin, an act perceived as a gesture of revenge after LSU's loss. Kiffin attempted to shake hands with some former players after a game-sealing interception, but they declined the gesture. Some players were also seen staring down Kiffin as he left the field.

Kiffin acknowledged feeling emotional about his return to Oxford, stating he was relieved the highly anticipated game was over, regardless of the outcome. "I was really emotional driving on the buses for a lot of reasons," he said. "It was just a lot of emotions of gratitude for this place and for the six years. It went well beyond football. It was also my first time coming into this type of game without my dad."
