Lakers Rookie Cameron Carr Impresses in Preseason Debut
Carr scores 19 points in the Lakers' preseason opener against the Kings, highlighting his offensive potential while aiming to improve defensively.
Cameron Carr, a rookie for the Los Angeles Lakers, demonstrated his scoring prowess in the team's preseason debut, contributing 19 points in a 127-103 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Monday. Carr shot 7-of-13 from the field, including 3-of-7 from beyond the arc, in 23 minutes of play off the bench.
Carr's performance followed up strong showings during the NBA summer league. "Every chance I get to step on the court, just growing in areas and just getting more comfortable with just playing in the offense and being efficient," Carr stated after the game.
Despite admitting to pre-game nerves, Carr's offensive output was significant, trailing only superstar Luka Dončić, who returned to the court for the first time in six months and scored 21 points. Carr acknowledged the nerves but emphasized the opportunity to compete at the highest level.
While Carr's offensive capabilities were evident, he focused on his defensive development as a key area for earning consistent playing time. He noted the defensive efforts of teammates like Matisse Thybulle and Ziaire Williams as examples to emulate. "Just staying on top of my cues. Don't be late and don't give lapses up. I mean, these dudes guard, they're in the right spot, so just be in the right spot for them," Carr said.
The Lakers' regular season begins on October 21 against the Warriors. Carr's continued development, particularly on the defensive end, will be crucial for his potential to secure meaningful minutes in the upcoming season.
