The Los Angeles Lakers have returned to winning ways, defeating the Clippers 103-85 on Wednesday evening. This victory came despite the absence of star guard Luka Doncic, who was sidelined with back tightness, and forward Ziaire Williams due to left foot soreness.
The Lakers, who had lost their previous game to the Trail Blazers, were without their top player. However, other members of the team stepped up to secure the win. Austin Reaves, considered the Lakers' second-best player, faced aggressive defensive coverages from the Clippers, who acknowledged his offensive threat. Reaves finished the game with 16 points, shooting 6-of-16 from the field, and committed eight turnovers, ending a streak of games with over 23 points and at least 54% shooting.
Collin Sexton provided a significant offensive spark, scoring nine consecutive points late in the third quarter that extended the Lakers' lead from 13 to 20 points. Sexton finished with 21 points. Quentin Grimes, making his first start of the season, contributed a season-high 23 points and added five assists and four steals. Matisse Thybulle added 15 points, shooting 5-of-6 from the field, including 4-of-6 from three-point range.
Veteran forward Jarred Vanderbilt made his season debut due to the team's injuries, recording a plus-22 individual plus-minus in 21 minutes of play.
The Clippers were also hampered by injuries, playing without Rui Hachimura, Brandon Ingram, and Bradley Beal.
