Lakers' Jake LaRavia Injury Update: Coach Encouraged After Scary Moment

Los Angeles Lakers forward Jake LaRavia exited the team's season-opening victory over the Golden State Warriors due to an apparent injury to his right lower leg. The incident occurred midway through the fourth quarter with the Lakers holding a significant lead.

LaRavia was driving to the basket when he collided with Warriors guard LJ Cryer. The Lakers' 2022 first-round draft pick twisted his ankle and lower leg awkwardly, falling to the court in apparent pain. Team trainers assisted him to the bench, and he was later seen able to put weight on the leg before heading to the locker room. Although he was able to walk off the court, the moment caused concern.

Despite the scary nature of the injury, Lakers head coach JJ Redick indicated he was encouraged by LaRavia's condition post-game. "I’m probably more positive than when it first happened," Redick stated. "But again, he’ll be evaluated. And the next time I talk to you guys, we’ll have an update."

Before leaving the game, LaRavia had been having a strong offensive performance off the bench, scoring 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting. Redick praised his contribution, noting his ability to impact winning both in ways that appear on the box score and those that do not. "He’s a winning player," Redick added.

The Lakers secured a dominant win in their season opener, with Luka Doncic, Walker Kessler, and Austin Reaves combining for 77 points, 21 rebounds, and 14 assists. The team's defense was particularly effective in the second and third quarters, limiting the Warriors to just 35 points over that span.
