Lakers Honor Late Announcer Lawrence Tanter
The Los Angeles Lakers paid tribute to longtime public-address announcer Lawrence Tanter during their first home game of the season.
The Los Angeles Lakers honored longtime public-address announcer Lawrence Tanter with a tribute before their preseason game against the Sacramento Kings on Thursday night. Tanter, who died in late September at the age of 76, served as the team's P.A. announcer for 43 years, beginning in 1982 and retiring near the end of the 2025-26 season.
Following a highlight reel of Tanter's most memorable moments and player introductions, a new announcer addressed the crowd. "Lawrence Tanter was more than the voice of your Los Angeles Lakers," the announcer stated. "His unmistakable voice was the soundtrack to generations of Lakers basketball, and some of the most memorable moments in franchise history. Tonight, we remember L.T. as a cherished member of the Lakers’ family, and a voice that will forever echo through this arena. Please join us for a moment of silence in honor of the legendary Lawrence Tanter."
The Lakers secured a 114-110 victory over the Kings. Tanter had experienced a stroke near the end of the Lakers' previous season, which caused him to miss the final six regular-season games and all five of their home postseason contests.
