The Los Angeles Lakers have hired Eric Amsler, formerly the Miami Heat's vice president of player personnel, to serve as their second assistant general manager. This move fills a key front-office position following months of searching.
Amsler joins Rohan Ramadas, who was hired as an assistant general manager in May, in expanding the Lakers' basketball operations staff. Lakers President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Rob Pelinka stated in May that the team intended to build out its infrastructure by adding assistant general manager positions.
"A lot of the infrastructure is being built," Pelinka said. "We will continue to staff out with assistant general manager positions. There’s a couple of those that we’re currently interviewing for and have done an extensive dive in that process. Those will be two key pillars that we’ll add for this offseason."
Amsler brings 22 years of experience with the Heat organization, where he began as an intern in the 2004-05 season. His tenure included roles in scouting and player personnel, culminating in his position as vice president of player personnel. He also served as general manager for the Sioux Falls Skyforce, the Heat's G League affiliate, from 2019 to 2023.
The Lakers' front office expansion occurs as a group led by Josh Kushner and Bob Iger is in the process of purchasing the franchise. This significant development in the team's ownership structure is separate from the ongoing efforts to strengthen the basketball operations department.
