Lakers Guard Collin Sexton's Status Uncertain Ahead of Preseason Opener
Sexton's right leg/calf was wrapped during the team's first shootaround of the 2026-27 season.
The Los Angeles Lakers began their preseason preparations with their first shootaround of the 2026-27 season at Golden 1 Center on Monday. However, a notable point of concern emerged as veteran guard Collin Sexton was observed with his right lower leg and calf area wrapped during the media-open portion of the session.
Sexton's availability for the upcoming preseason opener against the Kings is currently uncertain. This follows a period where he participated in extra work with the team's strength and conditioning staff after Saturday's practice. Additionally, he has not been featured in recent team social media posts that showcased practice activities.
Following Monday's shootaround, Sexton was seen engaging in light jogging and shuffling, as well as resistance running with a harness. When asked about player availability for the Sacramento games on Saturday, coach JJ Redick commented, "Obviously, still working through stuff."
Another observation from the shootaround was the team's new Nike gear. Players, including Luka Doncic who was seen wearing the full sweatsuit, appeared in the new apparel. However, the gear seemed heavier than previous iterations and more suited for streetwear than athletic performance.
Sexton was signed to a two-year deal by the Lakers in July.
