Lakers Guard Collin Sexton Questionable for Season Opener with Soleus Strain
Los Angeles Lakers may be without key guard Collin Sexton for their Wednesday night matchup against the Golden State Warriors.
As the Los Angeles Lakers prepare to open the 2026-2027 NBA season on Wednesday night against the Golden State Warriors, they could be shorthanded.
Guard Collin Sexton is questionable to play due to a right soleus strain, the Lakers announced. Sexton has been sidelined through all of training camp with a lower-leg injury, causing him to miss all five preseason games.
On Monday, Sexton participated in his first full Lakers practice and expressed optimism about his recovery. "I felt I had a really good practice and was super excited to be back out there with the guys," Sexton told The California Post. He added that he has been "taking it day by day."
In addition to Sexton, Cameron Carr (right oblique strain) and Adou Thiero (left knee contusion) are listed as out for the season opener.
Sexton, who spent the previous eight seasons with the Cavaliers, Jazz, Hornets, and Bulls, signed a two-year, $19 million deal with the Lakers in the offseason. He is expected to be a key contributor to the team's second-scoring unit. Throughout his career, the former No. 8 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft has averaged 18.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game.
If Sexton is unable to play, Ziaire Williams is likely to take his place in the rotation. Williams, another offseason acquisition for the Lakers, averaged 13.5 points per game in two preseason appearances.
The Lakers and Warriors are scheduled to tip off at 7:00 p.m. PT.
