Lakers' Early Season Success Halted by Trail Blazers in 136-129 Loss

The Los Angeles Lakers suffered their first loss of the 2026-27 season on Tuesday, falling to the Portland Trail Blazers 136-129 at Crypto.com Arena. The defeat snapped a three-game winning streak for the Lakers, who had relied on strong defensive efforts to complement their league-best offense in the early part of the season.

Despite a stellar offensive outing from Luka Doncic, who scored 41 points on 12-of-22 shooting from the field, including six three-pointers, and added nine assists and five rebounds, the Lakers could not match the Trail Blazers' offensive firepower. Austin Reaves continued his efficient play with 26 points on 8-of-13 shooting, alongside seven assists and four rebounds.

The Trail Blazers, who entered the game with the second-best offense in the league, capitalized on the Lakers' defensive lapses. Portland's balanced scoring attack featured four players scoring 20 or more points. Deni Avdija led the charge with 23 points, nine assists, and four rebounds. Ja Morant contributed 23 points and four assists, Damian Lillard added 21 points and four assists, and Jrue Holiday chipped in 22 points and four rebounds.

Portland's ability to score on five consecutive possessions late in the fourth quarter proved crucial in preventing the Lakers from mounting a comeback. The Trail Blazers shot an impressive 59% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc, demonstrating their offensive prowess throughout the game, although they converted just 63% of their free throws.

The loss drops the Lakers to a 3-1 record on the season.
