Lady Gaga's Emotional Journey to Motherhood Via Surrogacy

Lady Gaga was highly involved in the surrogacy process as she embarked on her journey to motherhood, according to sources. Page Six reported on September 11 that Gaga and her fiancé, Michael Polansky, welcomed their first child together.
A source told Page Six that the experience was "a very long and emotional process" with "ups and downs." The insider added, "There were so many appointments, meetings and logistics involved, and she was incredibly hands-on throughout the entire surrogacy process. She was very involved with her surrogate and wanted to be part of every step of the pregnancy."
It was "really important" for the 40-year-old singer to "have that connection with the woman carrying her daughter and to be involved as much as possible," the source said. "After everything she’d been through trying to become a mother, she didn’t want to miss a single moment. Having someone she could trust throughout the pregnancy meant everything to her."
Despite the challenges, the source stated that the Oscar winner is overjoyed to have realized her dream of becoming a mother. "It’s been a long journey to get here, but at the end of the day, every bit of it was worth it," the insider shared. "She finally has her baby girl, and she couldn’t be more thrilled."
Page Six initially reported the birth on September 11. The couple was subsequently spotted with their newborn during an outing in Northern California, with the singer seen carrying the infant. TMZ later reported that the couple welcomed a daughter named Rose Bean via a gestational carrier on June 9 in Los Angeles.
Sources indicated that Gaga's path to motherhood, which reportedly began in 2024, was marked by "ups and downs" due to significant health struggles. "There have been moments of giddiness and moments of despair. It has been so sad. It’s a real tale of hard times, both physical and emotional, en route to this happy ending," an insider explained. "She’s had severe hip issues and a heap of other physical ailments, alongside everything she puts her body through when performing."
Gaga has previously expressed her desire to become a mother. In a March 2025 interview with The New York Times, she stated, "I’m excited to be a mom. I used to have a lot of apprehension about it." She added, "The thing that’s the most important to me is to not force my children to live a life that they are not choosing. So the more that we can give them space to discover who they are on their own, that’s the thing that I believe in the most."
Gaga and Polansky began dating in 2019 and became engaged in 2024.
