Brisbane Lions player Lachie Neale shared a relaxed brunch with his girlfriend Emma Field in Melbourne on Friday, following a successful appeal against a one-match suspension. The victory cleared him to play in the upcoming AFL Grand Final, but he later encountered jeers from Fremantle supporters during the Grand Final parade.

Neale, a two-time Brownlow medallist, appeared in good spirits during the outing with Field, engaging in conversation and sharing affectionate gestures. Their appearance came shortly after they were seen together at a coffee date in Brisbane while his suspension was still under consideration.

Despite the personal reprieve, Neale faced a less welcoming atmosphere at the Grand Final parade. Fremantle supporters booed and heckled him as he moved through Melbourne's sporting precinct. The negative reception was also audible during his interview with Lions great Alastair Lynch.

Reflecting on the week's events, Neale stated that he was uncertain about the outcome of his appeal for most of the week but expressed relief that it was resolved in his favor. He credited his support system for helping him navigate the turbulent period.

Neale's one-match suspension stemmed from striking Hawthorn's Jack Ginnivan during a preliminary final. The initial penalty was upheld by the tribunal after a lengthy hearing, but Brisbane's subsequent appeal on Thursday led to its overturning.

Brisbane coach Chris Fagan admitted he had prepared for the Grand Final without Neale, while Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir confirmed his team had prepared to face Brisbane at full strength. This situation is not entirely new for Neale, who has faced significant challenges in previous Grand Final preparations due to injuries.

Looking ahead to Saturday's clash, Neale expressed confidence in his physical condition, describing it as the best he has felt entering a Grand Final. The game against his former club, Fremantle, could also mark Neale's final appearance for Brisbane, as he is slated to join Collingwood next year. Neale remains focused on securing a third consecutive premiership with the Lions, drawing on past finals experiences for motivation.
