LA Tech Worker Commutes Via Flight to San Francisco for Work
Angelique Khieu, 26, flies between Los Angeles and San Francisco multiple times a week for her hybrid tech sales job.
Angelique Khieu, a 26-year-old tech sales professional, has adopted an extreme commute, flying between Los Angeles and San Francisco multiple times a week to fulfill her hybrid work requirements. Khieu, who works as a Business Account Executive at Google, needs to be in the office three days a week.
Her routine involves an early start, departing from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) around 6 a.m. to catch a flight to San Francisco. Upon arrival, she takes public transportation, including the BART train at 7:45 a.m., to reach her office by 8:30 a.m. Khieu typically reverses the journey in the evening. She indicated that she sometimes spends nights in the Bay Area, as she maintains residences in both cities.
During the first half of the year, Khieu estimated taking between six to 10 flights per month for her commute. She has occasionally had to book flights the day before and once resorted to renting a car and driving with four other people after a flight delay.
Khieu's unconventional commute gained attention after she posted a video about it on TikTok, where it went viral. While some commenters expressed disbelief at the length and frequency of her travel, others shared similar experiences. Khieu stated that she still enjoys traveling, a sentiment that began in her childhood when she was excited about airport visits for vacations.
Before her current role at Google, which she began in January, Khieu worked at NetSuite in Santa Monica for nearly two years. She also previously served as a Lead Research Panel Coordinator at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. Khieu graduated from UCLA in 2023 with a degree in Sociology.
