LA's Iconic Día de los Muertos Celebration Returns to Hollywood Forever Cemetery
The 27th annual festival, themed 'All Under One Sky,' drew thousands to honor ancestors with music, art, and cultural performances.
Los Angeles’s well-known Día de los Muertos celebration took place this past weekend at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, drawing thousands of attendees for its 27th iteration. The event, themed “All Under One Sky,” ran from noon to midnight on Saturday.
“Día de los Muertos reminds us that love knows no borders. Memory belongs to us all. Grief belongs to us all. Hope belongs to us all,” the event’s official website stated. “When we gather to honor our ancestors, we are reminded that every life leaves behind a story — and every story is worthy of being remembered.”
The festival featured a lineup of music, including performances by DannyLux, Trish Toledo, Tropa Magica, and Los Shadows, along with DJ sets. The cultural program included Danza Azteca collectives such as Cuahutli, Tepeyollot Cuautitlan, and Sol de Fuego, as well as the Danza de los Voladores de Papantla.
Attendees experienced over 100 community-built altars dedicated to departed loved ones and witnessed a procession by hundreds of Aztec dancers. The event also included an art exhibition curated by Nery Gabriel Lemus in the Cathedral Mausoleum, and a Children’s Plaza with cultural crafts and storytelling activities.
