A Los Angeles DJ, Andrew Fedyk, is seeking answers after his 2-year-old Bernese Mountain dog, Dunkin, died while enrolled in a four-week board-and-train program. Fedyk and his wife had selected the program to help with their dogs' behavior, particularly as they recently welcomed a new baby.
Fedyk stated they chose a Studio City facility based on positive online reviews and multiple meetings with the trainer, which instilled confidence. The cost for the program for their two dogs was $10,000. However, just 48 hours after dropping off the dogs, Fedyk received news of Dunkin's death.
According to Fedyk, staff told him that Dunkin died in a car while being transported to a Hollywood kennel. The transport occurred after the trainer decided it was too hot to be at the park. Fedyk expressed frustration, noting that he was not informed about the transportation or the reason for the change in plans. He also stated that he was told Dunkin was not taken to a veterinarian following the incident.
Fedyk described Dunkin as "the most friendly dog on the planet" and expressed his deep grief over the loss. He plans to have an autopsy performed on Dunkin to determine the official cause of death.
Publicly sharing the experience, Fedyk urged other pet owners to thoroughly vet any trainers, boarding facilities, and individuals entrusted with their animals. Neither the trainer nor the specific company involved has been publicly identified.
