LA 2028 Olympics Face Sluggish International Ticket Sales Amid Promotion Concerns

International ticket sales for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games are lagging, with fewer than five percent of tickets purchased from outside the United States, according to internal sources. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is reportedly concerned about this lack of global interest, which industry experts attribute to a "woeful lack of PR and promotion in Europe" and other key international markets.

While it is possible to speculate on the impact of U.S. immigration policies, the success of fans traveling to the United States for the recent FIFA World Cup suggests that such factors may not be the primary deterrent. The current sales trend indicates a potential for an "insular Games" if promotional efforts are not significantly ramped up.

In other sports news, Championship clubs met at EFL headquarters to discuss a proposed new financial redistribution offer from the Premier League. While no final decisions were made, progress is reportedly being made from the EFL's perspective. The EFL is seeking a revised split of an additional £1.8 billion over 10 years, proposing 75 percent for the second tier and 15 and 10 percent for the third and fourth tiers, respectively, as opposed to the current 80/12/8 distribution.

The meeting was not without its anecdotes, including one club representative who arrived over an hour late after mistakenly boarding a train bound for Glasgow instead of London. Another attendee was overheard criticizing the FA's lenient sentencing of Southampton manager Tonda Eckert, who received a suspended ban for his involvement in the "Spygate" scandal. Officials from Southampton were reportedly taking note of these comments.

Separately, DAZN is refusing to issue refunds to customers following a significant disruption to its NFL coverage. During a match between the Buffalo Bills and the New England Patriots, the broadcast abruptly ended with less than a minute remaining and the score closely contested. Despite the abrupt conclusion, DAZN informed customers that a refund was not considered appropriate given the nature and duration of the disruption.

Meanwhile, Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, co-founder and Global CEO of the Sport Integrity Global Alliance, is expected to closely monitor FIFA's upcoming Council meeting. In a recent blog post, Macedo de Medeiros argued that an internal FIFA working group cannot independently guarantee the organization's governance is adequate, especially with Gianni Infantino at the helm. He stated that elections determine leadership but not the fitness of the system itself, warning that a lack of proper scrutiny of FIFA's structure could further undermine its credibility with football fans.
