Kyren Williams Voices Frustration Over Playing Time Amid Rams' Struggles
Running back Kyren Williams expressed dissatisfaction with his role as the Los Angeles Rams' season continues to falter after a close loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
Los Angeles Rams running back Kyren Williams has voiced his frustration regarding his playing time as the team’s season continues to underperform. The Rams currently hold a 2-4 record after suffering an 18-16 defeat to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
Following the loss, Williams, when asked about the team’s inability to sustain offensive drives, stated, “Can’t tell you, bro. Probably because I’m not out there.” This comment suggests a belief that his limited involvement is a factor in the team’s offensive struggles.
When questioned about potentially increasing his snaps compared to previous seasons, Williams indicated that the decision is out of his hands but emphasized the need for sustained energy and enthusiasm across all units. "I just think no matter what, we gotta continue to have the energy. When plays are made, be excited, be happy so that we can not only uplift the offense, but the defense, the special teams. Being able to have that camaraderie to play off each other and I think that’s gonna allow us to be where want to be,” he said.
Williams led the Rams in rushing in Sunday's game, accumulating 50 yards on 10 carries. He also added 17 receiving yards on three receptions. Backup running back Blake Corum recorded 42 rushing yards on nine carries and 18 receiving yards.
Despite Williams’ sentiments, he participated in 40 offensive snaps, while Corum was on the field for 16. This season, Williams has been active for 68.02% of the Rams’ offensive snaps, ranking him sixth on the team in offensive participation.
The Rams, initially considered Super Bowl favorites, now find themselves last in the NFC West standings, trailing the Cardinals due to a tiebreaker. The team's struggles were compounded by injuries during the game. Kicker Blake Grupe sustained a knee injury on the kickoff following his own field goal attempt and was removed from the game. Wide receiver Davante Adams also left the game early with a non-contact knee injury during the team's final scoring drive.
The Cardinals secured their victory with a game-winning field goal after quickly moving past midfield on their final possession, following a late touchdown pass from Matthew Stafford to Colby Parkinson that had briefly given the Rams a one-point lead with 52 seconds remaining.
