Kylie Jenner Sparks Controversy with Victoria's Secret Fashion Show Appearance
Reality TV star's modeling of the $50 million Fantasy Bra draws criticism from fans and calls for show cancellation.
Kylie Jenner's participation in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, particularly her modeling of the $50 million Fantasy Bra, has ignited a firestorm of online criticism, with some fans calling for the event's cancellation.
Jenner, 29, became the first non-Angel to wear the iconic gemstone-encrusted bra on the runway during the spectacle held in Culver City, California. This deviation from tradition, where the bra is typically worn by seasoned Victoria's Secret models, led to a backlash.
Critics voiced their displeasure on social media platforms, with one user on X stating, 'This is UNACCEPTABLE.' Another commented, 'Victoria Secret truly out of creativity. Most expensive and yet the most basic. And a kardashian/jenner to cheapen it more.' Questions were also raised about the selection process, such as 'Out of literally anyone ever why the F**K did they put the fantasy bra on Kylie Jenner?' Some users even called for the show to be canceled entirely.
Past wearers of the prestigious Fantasy Bra include supermodels such as Gisele Bundchen, Heidi Klum, Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Tyra Banks, and Candice Swanepoel.
Following the show, Jenner attended an afterparty where she was seen wearing a second sparkling bra that echoed the lingerie she displayed on the runway. She posed with fellow attendees Gigi Gorgeous and Marsha Molinari, with Gorgeous captioning the image, 'the angels and icons were out last night.' Jenner also shared glimpses of her cleavage in the Fantasy Bra on her Instagram Stories, writing 'best day ever,' and posted a photo of herself in the brand's signature pink robe while preparing for the show.
Victoria's Secret creative director Adam Selman defended the decision to cast Jenner in an interview with Vogue. He explained that Jenner's influence extends beyond fashion and that she is a "great catalyst" for the show's theme of "fandomonium." Selman stated that the pairing was intended to give fans an unexpected talent with "massive cultural impact" and to celebrate in a "joyful" and different way. Jenner's runway appearance was supported by boyfriend Timothee Chalamet and her mother, Kris Jenner, who were present in the front row.
