Former Duke and NBA star Kyle Singler has posted a series of disturbing social media videos that have led fans to express significant concern for his well-being.
In four videos posted Tuesday, Singler, appearing disheveled, paced in circles and ranted about various topics, including his former coach Mike Krzyzewski, societal issues, and personal difficulties. He claimed that his living space had lost power and that he felt imprisoned in his home.
"I need this message to go out to as many people as possible. Man, Coach K has set me up. Set me up, man," Singler said in one video. "I have no power and I have no house. I've reached out to Coach and everyone has turned the other way... You guys are, um, cutting my power off, breaking into my house, stealing money. Ruining my life."
Singler, who stated he is now living in Oklahoma, also claimed people were attempting to steal his money and harm him. "I go out, I'm out in Oklahoma, I go out walking on the street, I get pulled, I get arrested, I get fucking checked, I get kicked out of restaurants," he stated. "I feel imprisoned. Where we at? Leaving people stranded."
He repeatedly appealed to Krzyzewski for assistance, expressing disappointment that his former coach had not responded to his pleas. "Coach, I need your help, man. I'm stuck at my, uh, house and I can't leave." Singler also mentioned that friends and family back home were devastated and gone, adding, "Again, my life's on the line."
In another video, Singler asserted he was under surveillance and threatened with violence, stating, "I have people watching my residence, and people in Oklahoma are way too paranoid for honesty and the truth." He described his accounts as hijacked and frozen, and reiterated his calls for help from Krzyzewski, whom he accused of being "deflective" and "leaving people in the dust."
Fans responded to Singler's posts with messages urging him to seek help and appealing to the Duke basketball program to intervene. Comments included advice to "get clean man get back to hoops somehow" and prayers for him to "get the help you need."
This is not the first time this year that Singler has posted videos causing concern. In January, he admitted to being homeless and alleged his child was being abused in a video that was subsequently deleted. At that time, he claimed people were taking his money and that his child was being subjected to sexual, physical, emotional, and spiritual abuse.
This earlier video was posted months after Singler's arrest in Oklahoma for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend. According to a local news report, the woman told officers that Singler, her live-in boyfriend, was attempting to take their child. Officers at the time noted Singler appeared to be under the influence of drugs, and the woman reported he had threatened to rape her before assaulting her. She sustained bruising and visible finger marks on her face.
Singler had a decorated college career at Duke University, where he was a member of the 2010 National Championship team and was named the Final Four's Most Outstanding Player. He was selected by the Detroit Pistons in the second round of the 2011 NBA Draft and later played for the Oklahoma City Thunder before retiring in 2019 due to "personal reasons."
