IndyCar driver Kyle Kirkwood won the Freedom 250 Grand Prix in Washington, D.C., on Sunday, holding off Christian Lundgaard for his second victory of the 2026 season. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were in attendance for the historic street race.

Kirkwood took the lead from Álex Palou early in the race and maintained a significant advantage for much of the event. Despite late cautions that narrowed the gap, Kirkwood managed to hold off Lundgaard, who finished second. Palou, who entered the race leading the season standings, incurred a drive-through penalty that relegated him to the back of the field, preventing him from contending for the win.

The Freedom 250 Grand Prix was held on the National Mall as part of the United States' 250th anniversary celebration. President Trump met with racing officials and drivers on the track before waving the green flag to officially start the race. The Trumps also participated in an honorary lap in the presidential limousine, known as "The Beast."
