Kyle Kennedy, a granddaughter of Robert F. Kennedy and Ethel Kennedy, died on September 21 at her home in Massachusetts. She was 42 years old.

Kennedy, the daughter of Michael Kennedy and Victoria Gifford Kennedy, was born in Washington, D.C., on July 6, 1984. She was an alumna of Milton Academy and earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Georgetown University. She pursued advanced degrees in education from Pace University and the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Her professional career began with Teach for America, where she taught in New York City public schools for two years. This experience led to a commitment to early childhood education and reform. Kennedy worked as an advocate for equitable elementary education and charter schools, collaborated with education technology companies, and served as an instructional coach for primary school educators.

An accomplished long-distance runner, Kennedy completed the Boston Marathon in 2019. In 2020, she suffered a severe spinal cord injury that resulted in long-term paralysis and significant health challenges. Following her injury, Kennedy became an advocate for disability rights, including testifying at the Massachusetts State House regarding healthcare discrimination against individuals with disabilities.

Kennedy was preceded in death by her father, Michael Kennedy, in 1997, and an infant daughter, Josie. She is survived by her sons, Conor and Declan; her mother, Victoria; her brother, Michael, and his family; and her sister, Rory, and her family. Funeral services were held privately.
