Kyla Scanlon Launches Weekly Podcast ‘Best of Luck’ with Vox
The new podcast aims to guide listeners through building a meaningful career in the current economic landscape.
Kyla Scanlon, a New York Times bestselling author and economic commentator, has partnered with Vox to launch a new weekly video interview podcast titled Best of Luck. The show premiered on October 27, with new episodes scheduled to release every Tuesday.
Each episode features Scanlon interviewing guests from diverse professional backgrounds, including economists, journalists, farmers, and comedians. The conversations focus on how these individuals navigated their careers, sharing insights into their detours, setbacks, and successes. Scanlon connects these personal narratives to the broader economic context, offering actionable advice for listeners at any stage of their professional lives.
“So much of the advice we are given about building a career still comes from an economy that doesn’t really exist anymore,” Scanlon stated. “There is no one right way to build a career, especially now. The goal of this show is to ask guests how they actually did it, across the best parts, the worst parts, and the parts that were lucky. Then we put it to work! Every guest sits for a mock job interview and does an advice autopsy, and we talk about how you build your own luck. Hearing how other people found their path can help all of us make better decisions about our own.”
Scanlon, recognized for her ability to make complex economic ideas accessible, coined the term “vibecession” to describe the perceived disconnect between economic data and public sentiment. She is also the author of the New York Times bestseller In This Economy? How Money & Markets Really Work, a CNN contributor, and a monthly contributor to The New York Times Opinion section.
Vox aims to leverage Scanlon’s expertise in its own explanatory approach to media. Swati Sharma, editor-in-chief and publisher at Vox, noted, “At Vox, we have long been fans of Kyla’s work — her approach to explaining the economy in an accessible, approachable way really personifies Vox’s explanatory approach.” Lillian Xu, vice president of podcast business at Vox Media, added that Scanlon has a “gift for translating the big, confusing picture of our economy into what it means for each of us” and that Best of Luck will provide practical advice for a changing job market.
Best of Luck joins Vox's existing podcast lineup, which includes Today, Explained, The Gray Area, and America, Actually. The show is part of the Vox Media Podcast Network, a major US podcast publisher.
A trailer for Best of Luck is available, and the first episode is accessible on platforms including YouTube, Apple Podcasts, and Spotify.
