At least one person was killed and five others were injured when a large barrage of Russian missiles struck Kyiv in the early hours of Wednesday morning, authorities reported. Explosions were heard in the Ukrainian capital shortly after midnight, following an air force warning of incoming ballistic missiles.
Kyiv's military administration stated that the barrage damaged residential buildings and several warehouses. The city's air alert was lifted after approximately one hour and 25 minutes. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported on Telegram that three people were hospitalized, with one in serious condition.
This incident follows a previous weekend of attacks, where Russian strikes on Kyiv and its suburbs killed 10 people and wounded more than 30. In separate events, Ukrainian drones reportedly sank a Russian container ship in the Black Sea.
The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, has stated that a shortage of U.S.-made Patriot missile interceptors "only encourages Russia to launch such attacks that take human lives." He recently met with U.S. President Donald Trump to discuss obtaining licenses for domestic Patriot production.
Meanwhile, incidents targeting civilians continue. In Kherson, a video surfaced showing an FPV drone pursuing a market seller, who survived the attack with blast injuries and shrapnel wounds. Commentators described this as part of a deliberate campaign to terrorize Ukraine's population. UN human rights monitors have expressed concern over rising civilian casualties, which are reportedly at their highest level since Russia's invasion in February 2022.
