Kyiv Bridges Targeted in Renewed Russian Strikes

Kyiv has experienced renewed attacks on its critical infrastructure, with Russian forces striking a second major bridge in the capital, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko. The Northern Bridge was targeted on Saturday, with emergency services responding to the scene. Klitschko announced that traffic on the bridge, which connects the left and right banks of the Dnipro River, was blocked.

This latest strike follows an earlier attack on the Southern Bridge on Thursday, which prompted a crisis meeting of Kyiv's defense council. Following that meeting, Klitschko described the city as being in a "very dramatic situation" as Russia continues to target "critical infrastructure, logistics, housing" and other key facilities.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that these actions are in retaliation for Ukrainian strikes on Russian energy facilities, though Moscow launched the initial attacks. Passengers on the Southern Bridge described dust entering their train carriage from a blast wave after the Thursday attack. Metro train services were temporarily suspended, but road traffic was eventually permitted to resume across the bridge.

The attacks highlight the ongoing escalation and the targeting of vital transportation links within the Ukrainian capital.
