Kurt Warner Urges Jayden Daniels to Play Through Dislocated Elbow
Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner shared his own experience with a similar injury, suggesting Daniels could play with his left elbow dislocated.
Hall of Fame NFL quarterback Kurt Warner has advised Jayden Daniels to continue playing despite a dislocated elbow, drawing a parallel to his own experience.
Daniels sustained the injury to his left elbow during the Washington Commanders' recent loss to the Dallas Cowboys when he fell attempting to brace himself. This is the same injury he suffered last November, which sidelined him for a month and was aggravated when he attempted to return to play.
Warner, who experienced the same injury in 2007, believes Daniels could play through the pain. "I suffered the exact same injury back in '07, and I played the next week," Warner said on ESPN. "I braced it up, obviously a couple shots along the way, I had to hand the football off with my right hand in both directions, but this to me is something, because it's the left arm, if he wants to play through that, and get back out there and help his team, I believe he can."
He further explained that the injury primarily affects movement and running rather than the throwing motion. "It's not going to be one of those things that affects the throwing part of things. Does it affect his movement, does it affect his running or some of the things they want to do by design? Maybe, but I do believe this is something he can come back from."
Warner, then with the Arizona Cardinals, suffered his elbow injury in Week 6 of the 2007 season after being sacked by Julius Peppers. He missed the remainder of that game but played the following week with a brace on his left elbow and did not miss another game for the rest of the season. The following year, he led the Cardinals to the Super Bowl.
However, Daniels has already been confirmed to miss the Commanders' upcoming game against the Seattle Seahawks. Coach Dan Quinn announced that Marcus Mariota will start at quarterback and that Daniels will consult with specialists this week.
The severity of Daniels' injury was evident during the broadcast, prompting reactions from notable figures. Tom Brady, while on air, reacted with an expletive upon seeing a replay of the injury, which clearly showed a visible issue with Daniels' arm.
