Kumail Nanjiani: 'White Lotus' Season 4 Cast Bonding is 'Incredible'

The cast of the upcoming season of HBO's "The White Lotus" have developed a strong camaraderie while filming on the French Riviera, according to actor Kumail Nanjiani.

Nanjiani told Page Six that the extended location shoot has fostered an environment where the cast spends significant time together, leading to "incredible" bonding. "Often, we’re all living in the same hotel, so it’s kind of like being in a college dorm," he explained.

Filming for "The White Lotus" Season 4 is taking place in locations such as the Airelles Château de la Messardière in St. Tropez and the Hôtel Martinez in Cannes. Nanjiani noted that the proximity of the cast members encourages constant interaction. "You walk out of your room and everybody there is someone you know," he said. "The cast has gotten very, very, close. We have breakfast together, lunch together, dinner together."

Each season of Mike White's anthology series focuses on different guests and staff at fictional White Lotus resorts. Previously, the show filmed in Hawaii, Sicily, and Thailand, with cast members often staying at the filming locations.

HBO has not yet announced a premiere date for Season 4, but it has been confirmed that the season will be set during the Cannes Film Festival.

The cast for the new season includes Laura Dern, Chris Messina, Charlie Hall, Steve Coogan, Max Greenfield, Rosie Perez, and Nanjiani.

"I’ve never worked with a cast this size, [where] I’ve gotten this close to every single person," Nanjiani stated. "All the little groups are fun. The one-on-ones are fun. The big groups go out together, sometimes. That’s fun." He praised creator Mike White as "an incredible director" and called the experience "one of the best professional experiences I’ve ever had."

As in previous seasons, the central plot is expected to revolve around the death of a hotel guest, with the identity of the victim revealed in the finale. Nanjiani mentioned that fans and hotel guests have approached him seeking spoilers, but he has maintained secrecy.

"I’m like, ‘I can’t tell you, but I do know.' I know everything. I know what the big mystery is, but I can’t tell anyone,” he said, adding that he has not even shared plot details with his wife, Emily V. Gordon, with whom he co-wrote the Oscar-nominated film "The Big Sick."

Nanjiani also reflected on the significant public reaction to his casting announcement, describing an overwhelming number of text messages from friends and family, more than he had ever received for a job before.

In addition to his acting work, Nanjiani is promoting his partnership with Purina's Tidy Cats litter brand. He recently adopted a kitten named Biscuit, following the loss of his 17-year-old cat. Nanjiani, who often incorporates his love for cats into his stand-up comedy, believes that cleaning litter boxes is "really important."
