KTLA Reporter’s Live Rain Broadcast Interrupted by Family Reunion

During a live report on rainy weather in Rancho Cucamonga on Thursday, KTLA reporter Megan Telles was surprised by a familiar face: her cousin. The Emmy Award-winning journalist was on assignment when she spotted her cousin, Lauren, arriving at a nearby Starbucks.

Telles called out to her cousin, who then joined her on camera. The initial surprise quickly turned into a heartwarming moment, with Telles and her cousin sharing a hug. Anchors Chris Schauble and Megan Henderson, back in the studio, reacted with amusement and warmth.

"Get on over here, girlfriend. She’s like, ‘I don’t have my makeup on,’" Telles joked as her cousin approached. Telles then interviewed Lauren about the weather conditions, with her cousin noting, "As soon as I clocked in, it started pouring. People were running in with umbrellas, everything."

To close the unexpected segment, Telles complimented her cousin's appearance and asked her to say hello to their parents on air. "You know you’re my cousin when," Telles quipped, before asking for a close-up of her cousin’s lashes. "You’re on live television, say hi to mom and dad."

Telles described Lauren as her "baby cousin," currently in college and working at Starbucks. She also shared that she had previously asked her cousin to appear on camera for a report, but Lauren had declined before this spontaneous encounter.

Telles has been a reporter for KTLA since September 2018. She grew up in the Rancho Cucamonga area, where the chance reunion took place. She is a graduate of the University of Southern California and previously worked as a reporter in Sacramento and in entertainment reporting.
